DETHRONED

Exploring the intricate relationship between humanity and our majestic big cats.

50-minute documentary for broadcast, 80-minute campaign film

Dethroned

The big cats. For millennia, mankind has revered them; the source of our greatest wonders, and our greatest fears. But in the modern day, what has become of the relationship between us?

Photojournalist Aaron Gekoski has spent his life documenting the interplay of people and planet. Now he’s turning his camera on these icons of the ancients. From the jungles of Peru and the lion farms of South Africa, to exotic pet owners in Pakistan and Southeast Asia’s illegal wildlife trade, DETHRONED is a thoughtful and beautifully crafted investigation into our relationship with big cats.

Ultimately it asks: what becomes of us when we destroy all that is sacred?

A co-production of Terra Mater Studios and Four Corners Film & Photography in association with FOUR PAWS International.

"When a king falls,

his kingdom trembles"

DETHRONED asks us to not only consider our own relationship with big cats, but also to contemplate what becomes of humanity if we continue to destroy all that is sacred.
